Alaska Trip Day 6 Icy Straight Whale Smoke Ahoy!

        Day 6 Icy Straight Point
This is the boat we were on when we saw the whale.

Icy Straight Point is a cute little port town but unless you take an excursion there is not a lot to do. It might be worth taking a whale tour. We tendered to Icy Straight Point because the ship is too big to dock so you get to take the life boats to and from the port.

Luck was on our side. That morning we had already seen one whale on the way to the port but when we went to go to the town, a whale surfaced right by us. This happened while I was on the top floor of the boat and it was amazing. I could hear the whale when it would blow the water from its spout, so awesome! I wish we would have had the hindsight to take an excursion. After that we should have signed up for a whale watching excursion. The groups out that day saw a whale breeching but we were already signed up for whale watching in Juneau (more on that later). Apart from that there are some trails to take along the town, one through the woods, the other path along the road. This port offers a great view of your ship. Since it is not docked, you can get some great photos that you would be unable to get in other ports. There is also something for the pet lovers. I was mising my pets and in Icy Straight there was a friendly cat and a dog that reminded me of my beloved pets.

After exploring the shops and the trails there is not much more to do other than just heading back. It was a quiet rest of the day and after the excitment of the morning a little boring. I would recommend doing some sort of exscursion in this port but leave yourself some time to explore and get photos of the ship. There was a group out kayaking and it looked fun.
In the end a very good day, only few things I would have done differently. But I'm very greatful for all that happened that day. Few things can top having a whale suface not more than 15 yards away from you. What a great day! I wish to go back soon.

Thanks for reading. If you have any suggestions or would like to know more about something I touched on so far just let me know through commenting.
Again, thanks for looking. I appreciate it.
