Yellowstone Day 6: The Grand Tetons and the Moose

Woke up and drove down the mountain into The Grand Tetons to get some clear photos of the mountains before the afternoon fog rolled in. After stopping at some good spots and obtaining some satisfactory photos we headed to the Teton Village for lunch. We took Moose Road and as chance had it we saw a moose. It was feeding in pond close to the road. Got some really great photos with the water dripping from its mouth and the sun gleaming off a droplet on its eyelash. It was great to see her and after observing from a safe distance for a time we continued on. Ended up eating at The Mange Moose Restaurant. Somehow moose remainded a constant theme for the rest of the day, and no the restraurant was not planned, it just worked out. Oh, the irony. Once lunch was through we returned the way we came, saw some cars pulled over so we assumed the moose was still there. The moose was still there however it had a baby and unkown to me I was walking right towards it.

Thankfully, the people we saw earlier told us about the calf. They said we could see the calf in a clearing further down the road so as we were walking towards it I came face to face with a not too happy Momma. I could only see her face because she was in a bush right by the road; however, I got a much closer than desired view of those eyes. She was only about 5 feet away, way too close for comfort. This was not a good situation. Moose are aggressive and a momma moose is the worst. So we forgot about seeing the calf and hightailed it out of there.

We warned the other people about the momma and they were looking for her and trying to take a pictures when we left. Having done our stupid tourist thing for the trip we headed to the visitor center before heading back to the hotel.
